About the position

The Manager of Community Building on the Adult Engagement Team at Central Synagogue plays a pivotal role in fostering connections among members and participants in the global online community known as The Neighborhood. This position is designed to ensure that all members and Neighbors feel recognized and valued through their involvement in various small groups, volunteer opportunities, and online interactions. The Manager will employ a relational and data-driven approach in collaboration with the Membership Team to create an inclusive environment where individuals can build meaningful relationships from the moment they join the community. In this role, the Manager will be responsible for leading the development of new opportunities for members to connect, particularly through affinity-based small groups called CORE Groups. This includes recruiting, training, and supporting group leaders, as well as facilitating an annual feedback cycle to enhance the experience of participants. The Manager will also take a proactive approach in expanding programmatic offerings tailored to different age cohorts, ensuring that all members have access to engaging and relevant community experiences. Additionally, the Manager will work closely with the Director of Online Community Engagement to design and implement welcome and orientation events for Neighbors, ensuring they are well-integrated into the community. The role involves overseeing the Ambassadors program, moderating the online community, and identifying opportunities for Neighbors to engage in Jewish learning and development. The Manager will also be responsible for planning the annual Homecoming event for Neighbors, further solidifying connections within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Create new opportunities for members to meet and build relationships from onboarding onward.
  • Serve as the lead network-builder for affinity-based small groups (CORE Groups), including recruiting and training leaders.
  • Facilitate an annual feedback cycle for CORE groups to enhance participant experience.
  • Expand programmatic and relational offerings for age-based cohorts.
  • Support the usage of Mighty Networks for member connections.
  • Design and support welcome and orientation events for Neighbors.
  • Oversee the Ambassadors program to connect Neighbors with relevant offerings.
  • Moderate the online community, fostering engagement and addressing concerns.
  • Recruit, train, and support Neighbors interested in running small groups.
  • Identify opportunities for Neighbors to engage in Jewish learning and development.
  • Plan the annual Homecoming event for Neighbors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; master's/professional degree preferred.
  • 3+ years relevant work experience in a role serving members or the public, preferably in a Jewish/faith-based or cultural setting.
  • Experience in program creation and project management.
  • High level of computer literacy, with proven ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM, knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community building or engagement within a religious or cultural context.
  • Familiarity with Jewish traditions and practices.
