About the position

The Manager of Community Relations at Mohegan Sun is a pivotal role responsible for managing, coordinating, and assisting in the development and execution of all community and social outreach strategies and partnerships for the Connecticut Sun. This position is integral to enhancing fan development and database growth within the community, which directly supports the sale of various ticket types. The role requires a proactive approach to community engagement, focusing on both for-profit and non-profit initiatives that align with the organization's goals. In this position, the manager will assist in the development and execution of key community initiatives, ensuring that they resonate with the local population and foster a positive image of the Connecticut Sun. The manager will engage with day-to-day key community contacts, facilitating strong relationships that can lead to successful outreach events. Additionally, the role involves contributing ideas and strategies during the business planning process to create a comprehensive 12-month outreach plan. Collaboration with players is also a significant aspect of this role, as the manager will work closely with them to develop local community initiatives based on their personal interests. These initiatives will be transformed into public relations story pitches for the Manager of Communications. The manager will present new community ideas and relationships to the Director of Franchise Development, aiming to enhance the Connecticut Sun's stature and presence in the community. Moreover, the manager will be responsible for developing, creating, and executing community events that not only attract new fans but also contribute to the team's ticket sales efforts. This includes fulfilling all community-related sponsorship elements and activations, particularly during game days. The manager will also assist in creating events for the Sun Foundation, aimed at raising funds for community support. The role requires sourcing, ordering, and managing team memorabilia and giveaway items for fundraising and outreach, as well as coordinating social initiatives with the WNBA as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and execution of key community initiatives for both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
  • Manage and engage with day-to-day key community contacts.
  • Handle logistics and execution of all community and social outreach events.
  • Contribute ideas and strategies in the business planning process for a 12-month outreach plan.
  • Work closely with players to develop local community initiatives based on their interests.
  • Turn community initiatives into public relations story pitches for the Manager of Communications.
  • Present new community ideas to the Director of Franchise Development to enhance the Connecticut Sun's community presence.
  • Develop, create, and execute community events to attract new fans and contribute to ticket sales.
  • Assist in fulfilling community-related sponsorship elements and activations during game days.
  • Create events for the Sun Foundation to raise funds for community support.
  • Source, order, and manage team memorabilia and giveaway items for fundraising and outreach.
  • Coordinate social initiatives with the WNBA as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or related field.
  • Three years of experience working for a professional sports team in community relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and proactive in promoting new ideas and concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team environment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • In lieu of a degree, 7 years of experience in the community relations field.
