About the position

The position at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is designed to lead the analysis of the department's financial conditions, business compliance matters, and the effectiveness of strategies and programs in relation to business objectives. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing recommendations for the senior leadership team on a variety of business issues. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week, specifically from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and will be conducted on-site at the company’s office located at 2401 Faraway Drive, Columbia, SC 29223. The work environment is office-based, providing a structured setting for professional engagement. In this role, the leader will spearhead the analysis, development, and implementation of financial services and asset management strategies for departmental planning and control. This includes directing and managing the workload and ensuring the accuracy of deliverables prepared by assigned staff. The position also involves preparing development and career progression plans for team members, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal and state legislation, as well as internal policies and procedures. The leader will drive common accounting practices, manage reconciliations, and ensure consistent reporting across the department. Additionally, the role requires the development of proposals with supporting documentation and justification, as well as providing comprehensive financial and budget management and analysis for the department. The individual will also be responsible for developing appropriate pricing models and templates to support departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis, development, and implementation of financial services and asset management for department planning and control.
  • Direct and manage workload and accuracy of deliverables prepared by assigned staff.
  • Prepare development and career progression plans for assigned staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state legislations as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Drive common accounting practices, reconciliations, and consistent reporting.
  • Develop proposals with supporting documentation and justification.
  • Provide financial and budget management and analysis for the department.
  • Ensure the development of appropriate pricing models and templates for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • 8 years of financial analysis experience with either 2 years in a supervisory role or 2 years of equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.
  • If CPA, required experience is 6 years.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent presentation, organization, and research skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills, with in-depth experience in financial statement analysis and a strong understanding of corporate finance concepts such as discounted cash flow and valuation methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • General Accounting Software proficiency.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, v lookups) is a must.
