About the position

The Manager of Data Engineering at Jackson Health System is responsible for overseeing a team of data engineers to design, build, and maintain the organization's cloud-based data architecture, primarily utilizing Snowflake. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of the data platform, while also implementing best practices for data management and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and directs the design and implementation of scalable and robust data architectures on Snowflake.
  • Defines data models, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipelines to support business analytics and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensures the efficient and secure storage, processing, and access of data on Snowflake.
  • Manages and optimizes dbt Core, GitLab and Airflow on premise infrastructure.
  • Develops and maintains data integration processes, including data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Works with various data sources, APIs, and third-party tools.
  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of data systems, including query performance, storage utilization, and cost efficiency.
  • Implements best practices for data warehousing and cloud data management.
  • Mentors and manages a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, setting project priorities, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Ensures data security and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Implements data governance policies and procedures to protect sensitive information.
  • Works closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Communicates technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of related experience in data engineering, cloud technologies, and data warehousing.
  • Management experience is required.
  • Proven track record of implementing data solutions in Snowflake is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; Master's degree is preferred.

  • Experience with dbt Core, GitLab, and Airflow.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
