About the position

The Manager of Database Engineering will lead the delivery and maintenance of IT Oracle and SQL database system architectures and services across the enterprise. This role is crucial for developing strategic plans that align with the organization's objectives, ensuring database performance, security, and compliance while managing a team of database engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for database systems to support the organization's objectives and growth.
  • Manage the database engineering team ensuring their readiness to deliver IT Oracle and SQL database system architectures, services, and applicable tools.
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure Architecture team to coordinate the implementation of scalable, secure, and highly available IT Oracle and SQL database systems.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimization techniques.
  • Establish and maintain robust database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Ensure database security by managing user access, roles, permissions, and auditing activities to comply with organizational policies and regulations.
  • Forecast and plan for database resource requirements, including storage, memory, and computing power.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with database software vendors, service providers, and consultants to ensure effective support and partnerships.
  • Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures to maintain data integrity, security, and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to database operations, data security, and disaster recovery.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in IT Oracle and SQL database system engineering or a similar role.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering complex IT Oracle and SQL database system architectures for large-scale enterprises.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience guiding cyber security initiatives is a plus.
  • Any relevant industry or technology certifications are a plus.
