About the position

The Manager of Engineering is responsible for overseeing and managing roadway and transportation design projects within the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District. This role involves project management, supervising engineering staff, and representing the district in various public and legal settings. The position requires a strong background in civil engineering, project management, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead all aspects of project management for transportation and roadway improvement-related capital projects.
  • Oversee studies, design work, and construction inspection services of outside consultants, including contract management and technical design review.
  • Implement the Complete Street Policy and prepare annual updates for the Roadway & Storm Drain Capital Improvement Plan.
  • Manage inter-local infrastructure improvement program agreements with cities and other agencies, coordinating with various stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Represent the MSD at public meetings and present expert testimony at legal proceedings as required.
  • Manage the review of development proposals for transportation requirements and conduct necessary analyses and studies.
  • Make hiring recommendations, train and manage assigned staff, and conduct performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Current State of Utah Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Four years of post-license experience, including two years in a management capacity.
  • Experience in Structural Engineering and/or Environmental Engineering is a plus.
  • Valid and unencumbered driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D, ESRI ArcMap, and ArcInfo.
