About the position

As the Manager of Enterprise Data Governance at Shelter Insurance, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective data governance framework that ensures the integrity, quality, and security of our data assets. This role is crucial in enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization, promoting data stewardship, and ensuring compliance with data-related regulations, policies, and eDiscovery operations. You will work closely with various stakeholders to foster a culture of data governance and ensure that data is managed as a valuable asset throughout its lifecycle. In this position, you will lead initiatives to develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards. You will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of data governance tools and technologies, such as data cataloging tools, metadata management tools, and data lineage tools. Your strong understanding of data governance principles and regulatory compliance, including GDPR and CCPA, will be essential in guiding the organization through the complexities of data management in the insurance and financial services industry. Your role will also involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that data governance practices are integrated into business processes. You will need to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to data governance standards. Attention to detail and a focus on data accuracy and quality will be critical as you manage data governance initiatives and drive continuous improvement in data management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an effective data governance framework.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in data management, information systems, privacy law, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in data governance, data management, or a related role, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and data management practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) and industry standards for data management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing data governance policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations and best practices for data protection.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead data governance initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
