About the position

The Manager of Audio Visual (AV) and Media Services is responsible for overseeing the availability and reliability of AV systems for events at Macomb Community College. This role involves ensuring exceptional ease-of-use for event and rental AV assembly and presentation spaces, troubleshooting AV systems during critical events, and collaborating with various departments to deliver seamless AV solutions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in audiovisual design, programming, and implementation, along with advanced experience in video streaming and broadcast systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the demonstration, presentation, and broadcast systems are stable and reliable for college-wide and public-facing events.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AV systems in real-time during critical events to maintain brand integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement and maintain user-friendly self-service functionality for complex AV spaces to allow internal events to scale without staffing constraints.
  • Standardize design and provide expertise for upgrades of AV systems in in-house event spaces.
  • Teach and train end-users, speakers, and presenters on the usage of in-house AV systems.
  • Create build standards for audiovisual assembly/presentation spaces and support build teams during event space setups.
  • Implement and maintain global AV preventative maintenance and break/fix service plans.
  • Develop and implement digital signage throughout various college locations.
  • Research, design, and build device connectivity kits for live streaming and portable production kits for remote events.
  • Assume a 'Manager-In-Charge' role during critical live productions and manage technicians during live events.
  • Set up, test, and adjust AV and sound equipment for various performances and lectures.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and IT for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Prepare specifications for the purchase of AV equipment and systems.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and event staff.
  • Maintain skills to stay current with AV industry techniques and best practices.
  • Supervise and train full and part-time staff as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in audio, sound or acoustical engineering, digital or media arts, or a related field; or equivalent in-field experience such as 5+ years of professional work in sound engineering, audio production, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years experience in design, installation, and troubleshooting of enterprise AV systems.
  • Fluency with production AV equipment (e.g., Ross, Blackmagic, Shure, Yamaha) and enterprise AV systems (e.g., Cisco, Q-SYS, Crestron).
  • Proficient in using specialized tools and software for testing and calibration, and understanding blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex diagnostic tests, repairs, and preventative maintenance of AV systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience authoring audiovisual build standards.
  • Proven experience managing digital signage platforms such as Rise Vision or CleverLive.
