About the position

The Manager for Finance for Grants and Contracts is responsible for managing the financial activities necessary to successfully execute the activities of grants and contracts awarded to School of Education faculty, staff, and affiliates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage sponsored awards budgets, including grants, contracts, sub-awards, and other funds.
  • Design and implement efficient financial processes and procedures, including contracts and invoices.
  • Design, generate, and maintain accurate, up-to-date financial information and reports for the Dean of the School of Education, research faculty, and as needed.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the Incentive Allocation, Income, and Multi-Sponsor accounts, as well as all other grants and contracts funded centrally.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, private foundation, and campus guidelines.
  • Manage tuition payments for personnel involved with awarded projects.
  • Manage the processing of supply and equipment orders, participant and human incentive payments, travel, technology, catering, and space reservations.
  • Maintain organized financial records and files.
  • Act as the liaison to the Office of Research, Sponsored Programs Administration, Human Resources, as well as external vendors.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff involved in post-award management and communicate knowledge of new policies and procedures.
  • Participate in budget development during the initial proposal/pre award stage.
  • Prepare budget modifications and assist with the submission of financial reports.
  • Work with faculty and Sponsored Programs to navigate issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding all funded projects, including personnel and graduate students assigned to each.
  • Build and maintain Principal Investigator focused relationships with all project participants.
  • Work with professionally diverse populations.
  • Advocate for the PI research agenda and serve as SOE representative at campus activities and research-related events.
  • Responsible for maintaining post award and project related files for current projects.
  • Maintain documentation from sponsors related to post award funding.
  • Process all paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Follow up with RF and state accounting offices to ensure timely payments.
  • Attend regular staff meetings; keep supervisor and Assistant Dean informed of the overall financial status of grants and issues that require special attention.
  • Deliver quality services to faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Responsible for the completion of other special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with planning and execution of School of Education events in collaboration with SOE Dean's staff.
  • Participate in volunteer projects such as commencement, university events, and committees, as appropriate.
  • Attend campus training opportunities.
  • Alert the Director of Communications about events and newsworthy announcements connected to award projects and contracts.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in financial and operations management.
  • Ability to interpret federal, state and private financial guidelines on sponsored projects.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Microsoft office experience.

  • Master's degree in accounting, higher education, public administration, education or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience managing internally and externally funded research projects.
  • Knowledge of Research Foundation policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Oracle- based or similar financial reporting system.
  • 2+ years experience in a higher education setting.
