About the position

The Manager of Finance at the University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the annual operating budget, serving as a liaison with operational units on various financial matters, and collaborating with departmental leadership to implement strategic initiatives. This role involves project management, financial analysis, and the development of financial policies to ensure adherence to budgetary provisions, ultimately aiming to improve the financial health of the department while supporting its mission of providing high-quality pediatric care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor the annual operating budget for the Department of Pediatrics.
  • Serve as a liaison with operational units on financial, budget, clinical strategy, and physician productivity issues.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and advise on the operating budget for the department.
  • Provide project management and analytical support for special projects.
  • Consolidate section budgets into departmental operating and capital budget submissions.
  • Assist managers in analyzing proposals and developing proforma business plans.
  • Monitor operating budget reports and accounting records for revenue and expenses.
  • Report on variances between the approved budget and actual performance, recommending remediation measures.
  • Generate daily clinical dashboards and assess program efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial management or budgeting, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Experience with project management and strategic planning.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business administration or finance.
  • Experience in pediatric healthcare finance.
