About the position

The Manager of Financial Operations at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the school. Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for developing and maintaining best practices in financial operations, driving process improvements, and ensuring the delivery of timely and accurate financial services. The role emphasizes leveraging technology solutions to enhance service quality and efficiency, while also supervising a team dedicated to high-quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Financial Operations functions at SEAS, including procurement and reimbursement processes, card management, and PCI compliance.
  • Review contracts and approve P.O.s while collaborating with stakeholders and Harvard's Office of General Counsel.
  • Manage the content and design of the internal website for financial operations.
  • Support the Controller in maintaining a strong internal control environment at the school.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to monitor compliance with financial guidelines and policies.
  • Partner with the Controller to review SEAS procurement practices and identify operational challenges.
  • Provide analytical metrics to senior management for strategic planning.
  • Initiate and collaborate on adopting innovative practices and leveraging technology solutions.
  • Supervise and develop the Financial Operations Team, fostering a motivated and cross-trained team.
  • Act as a key liaison to SEAS departments and collaborate with leadership on business needs.
  • Lead SEAS in planning and implementing the University's financial processes and systems.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress through various communication channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • A minimum of 7 years relevant work experience.
  • Supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advance degree (MBA or MS) and experience working within a nonprofit industry preferred.
  • Experience supervising in a customer service environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and audit functions relating to compliance with internal control systems.
