About the position

The Manager of Injury Prevention and Community Outreach at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is responsible for leading efforts to reduce unintentional injuries in children across Iowa. This role involves designing, planning, promoting, and evaluating the Injury Prevention and Community Outreach program in collaboration with hospital leadership and staff. The position requires a strong focus on program management, community engagement, and strategic planning to enhance safety initiatives and educational outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer the operational and financial activities for the Injury Prevention and Community Outreach program.
  • Monitor status of projects and analyze program data, developing reports and overseeing activities.
  • Determine costs and manage budget development, including monitoring accounts and expenditures.
  • Generate income through the Stead Family Children's Hospital Safety Store and seek grant funding for program expansion.
  • Identify potential vendors and key stakeholders, gathering financial quotes and selecting bids.
  • Implement and manage new programs, services, and components of the Injury Prevention program.
  • Conduct periodic evaluations of the program's operations and report on meeting stated objectives.
  • Lead strategic planning for the Injury Prevention and Community Outreach Program, including various safety initiatives.
  • Serve as Program Coordinator for the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, leading communication strategies and program expansion.
  • Plan and oversee events, ensuring measurable results and appropriate follow-ups.
  • Develop educational programs aimed at reducing injuries in children and manage compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years related administrative and program experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience with demonstrated excellence in public speaking.
  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Current, valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Health or a similar discipline, or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum three years of knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician required within 6 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with community outreach/partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience with retail operations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency/experience with grant writing.
  • Demonstrated experience with event planning.
