About the position

The Manager of Operational Accounting at UFP Technologies, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the operational accounting areas including Inventory/Costing, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable. This role ensures compliance with accounting principles and practices for a publicly traded manufacturing company, supervising the respective departments to guarantee timely and accurate financial reporting. The position also involves significant input on implementing automated accounting solutions and managing a team effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities of the accounts payable and accounts receivable departments to ensure timely and accurate performance.
  • Oversee the company-wide credit, collection, and cash application process, ensuring adherence to policies and internal controls.
  • Manage the inventory accounting process, providing support for plant locations with inventory and costing issues.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including detailed account reconciliations for assigned functions.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Assist the controller with quarter-end and year-end audits by a third-party public accounting firm.
  • Support the management of the company's commercial insurance programs.
  • Assist with preparation for external audits and financial reporting.
  • Prepare periodic tax and statutory filings, including sales and use taxes, property taxes, and 1099 filings.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop efficient procedures for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and training of new automated systems.
  • Provide financial analysis to support decision-making and explain financial variances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing personnel.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry and inventory/cost accounting is required.
  • Strong Excel skills are necessary.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP systems is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Familiarity with financial analysis and reporting.
