About the position

The Manager of Operational Analysis and Strategy at Alter Trading Corporation plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Vice President of Operations by assessing operational and financial data across the organization. This position is responsible for gathering, evaluating, and standardizing measurement systems and reporting for production operations. The role involves performing a wide variety of financial analyses, conducting research, and developing data-driven strategies to enhance operational effectiveness. The Manager will have high-profile exposure to the executive team and will be presented with long-term growth opportunities within the company. In this role, the Manager will identify growth opportunities both internally and externally by analyzing competitive solutions and positioning the business to increase market share. The focus will be on impacting revenue growth, improving operating margins, enhancing asset efficiency, and boosting management effectiveness through the development and execution of operational budgets and business plans. The Manager will build knowledge of operations management by identifying and sharing operational trends and analyses that improve understanding of key business drivers. The position also entails assessing the ongoing progress of the organization and driving broad changes and specific improvement initiatives necessary to achieve targeted business outcomes. The Manager will lead the direction and implementation of various operational initiatives as defined by the SVP of Operations and will be responsible for specific cross-functional initiatives that span both operations and shared services. Additionally, the role supports business development through due diligence and integration of acquisitions, connecting disparate quantitative and qualitative data points into coherent, evidence-based arguments that support strategic changes. The Manager will develop reporting for operations management to measure key operational metrics such as output, efficiencies, costs, and downtime. They will facilitate target setting and identify projects to achieve those targets, using standardized tools to verify the attainment of established goals. The role also involves leveraging successes across multiple regions and facilities and providing strategic direction for the evolution of Operational Strategy & Analysis. Other responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify growth opportunities internally and externally by analyzing and monitoring competitive solutions and positioning the business to increase market share.

Requirements

  • MBA and 2 - 3 years' experience in the scrap industry preferred.
  • Advanced skills using the latest Microsoft Office Products.
  • Leadership and influencing skills with a wide range of individuals.
  • Familiarity with operations improvement tools and methodologies desirable.
  • Solid skills in finance, statistics, problem solving, and analysis required to solve complex business problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable working with various levels within the organization.
  • Intellectual curiosity regarding the scrap metal industry required.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality at all times due to the sensitive nature of the role and its responsibilities.
  • Ability to function well in both a team setting and on a self-directed basis.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% annually if required.
