The ideal candidate will align with our company mission and leverage their past experiences to help build the world's best emergency veterinary company. This role involves continually improving the payroll department, scaling our best-in-class system, providing an excellent employee experience, and collaborating effectively with our people and operations teams. The Manager of Payroll Operations will oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll across multiple units and states, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and fostering a positive work environment for the payroll team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accurate and timely processing of the centralized multi-unit/multi-state payroll for our weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payroll.
  • Lead the team of four (and growing) payroll employees to execute on payroll.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and identify workflows in need of redevelopment with a view to develop best in class payroll process that focuses on ensuring accuracy of gross to net pay calculations in Workday.
  • Have a thorough understanding of our pay structure to ensure payroll outputs are consistent with said structure.
  • Manage and own Workday inputs and outputs, including Integrations to payroll and GL mapping.
  • Establish and manage a thorough tax audit per payroll, per quarter and annually, including identifying the need to register for new tax jurisdictions.
  • Oversee quarterly payroll tax filings to ensure accurate and timely submissions are made in 400 tax jurisdictions.
  • Manage all aspects of year-end processing for accurate and timely distribution of W-2 statements by ensuring all imputed ie transactions are properly identified and recorded.
  • Manage escalations of issues as brought up by the Lead Analyst, employees, or other stakeholders and drive them effectively to resolution.
  • Collaborate effectively with the people and operations team to ensure our Veggies are provided with a payroll experience consistent with our core employee values.
  • Work hand in hand with Sr Director of Payroll on improvements of process and overall VEG payroll experience. Escalate items to Director's attention in a timely manner.
  • Recommend payroll team structure and growth based on our scaling business.
  • Develop team expertise and ensure cross-training.
  • Lead team to be viewed as a trusted partner to the organization.
  • Be technology savvy to be able to seamlessly collaborate with the team and other stakeholders via Zoom, emails, and chat.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of payroll experience and minimum 5 years of payroll management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Recent Workday payroll processing experience is a must.
  • Multi Unit/Multi State payroll and tax regulations problem-solving experience.
  • Established leader able to demonstrate strong experience in managing team's workload, monitoring performance and ensuring goals are met.
