About the position

The Manager of Underwriting at JMAC Lending is responsible for overseeing the Non-Agency products, leading a team of Non-conforming and Non-QM Underwriters. This role involves developing underwriting policies, managing risks, ensuring compliance, and driving team performance to maintain high standards of service and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and motivate the Non-Conforming and Non-QM underwriting team.
• Manage team workload and ensure turn times are met.
• Set productivity and quality expectations for underwriters.
• Coach underwriters to ensure adherence to program guidelines and regulations.
• Recruit and onboard top-performing underwriters.
• Underwrite loans and provide second sign when necessary.
• Implement strategies to address performance gaps and improve efficiency.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities for Non-Agency products.
• Address post-closing issues and monitor portfolio performance.
• Provide product training to sales teams and customers.
• Increase underwriting productivity by managing touches and streamlining workflow.
• Evaluate the structure of the underwriting department for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with other departments to enhance processes.
• Communicate effectively with the sales team to resolve issues.
• Provide training and support to internal staff on products.
• Regularly update on underwriting performance and initiatives.

Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience leading teams of residential mortgage underwriters.
• More than 3 years of expertise in credit analysis and approving Non-Agency, Jumbo, and Non-QM products.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven leadership prowess with a knack for nurturing and developing teams.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a steadfast dedication to achieving exceptional outcomes.
