About the position

The Manager on Duty/Event Worker position at the Jack S Blanton Museum of Art is designed to support the on-site logistics required for successful public programs. This role is crucial in ensuring that events are executed smoothly, enhancing the experience for patrons who visit the museum to engage with its exhibitions and mission. The position will primarily involve working as a Manager on Duty (MOD) during the monthly "Blanton All Day" events and quarterly B Scene events, with potential opportunities for involvement in other museum activities as needed. The MOD will be responsible for overseeing the day-of operations, ensuring that all technical and logistical requirements are met, and serving as the main point of contact for vendors and entertainment during events. In this role, the MOD will assist in setting up the venue for various programs, which includes relocating furniture to accommodate food and beverage vendors, entertainment, and activities. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure that the venue remains clean and organized throughout the event. After the event, the MOD will also be responsible for load-out, ensuring that vendor areas are clear and that all museum equipment is properly stored. This position demands strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team to deliver high-quality events that resonate with the museum's audience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up the venue for programs or functions.
  • Help relocate chairs or other furniture to make room for food/beverage vendors, entertainment, and/or activities.
  • Assist with load-in; ensure tech requirements are met.
  • Set up green room and any spaces for special activities.
  • During the event, serve as the main point of contact for entertainment and vendors.
  • Ensure the venue remains clean and organized during the event.
  • Assist with load-out; ensure food/beverage vendor areas are clear.
  • Straighten any special activity rooms and green room.
  • Put away/store any museum equipment such as games and signage.
  • At the end of the event, ensure the venue is restored and ready for visitors the next day.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment to accomplish live events.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Strong physical dexterity.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work for long, flexible hours and on weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in event coordination, or other relevant field.
  • Proven experience as event staff in an event management company or similar role in the hospitality industry.
  • Experience working in theater, festival, performing arts production, art museums, cultural organizations, and/or academic environment.
