About the position

The Operations Manager at Hawesville Mill is responsible for overseeing safety, environmental standards, quality control, productivity, talent management, and cost management within the Bleach Pulp Mill and Fine Paper Departments. This role involves collaborating with the Leadership Team to enhance the mill's culture and operational results, ensuring that the mill meets its performance goals while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety, environmental, and quality initiatives for the mill's operating team.
• Drive strategy and execution across all areas of the business unit.
• Maintain a presence on the plant floor to facilitate two-way communication with employees.
• Communicate business unit goals and results effectively to peers, superiors, and corporate stakeholders.
• Implement reliability practices including planning & scheduling, essential care, and condition monitoring.
• Ensure product quality meets or exceeds customer expectations through quality systems and operator training.
• Participate in annual and long-term capital planning processes, championing important projects.
• Lead, motivate, and support a team in a demanding environment, including career development planning for direct reports.
• Conduct budget reviews and manage cost improvement plans.
• Engage in long-term planning to create initiatives that align with the mill's goals.
• Analyze budget information to minimize expenses and optimize profits.
• Manage data collection to update operations metrics and achieve productivity targets.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Paper, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in Pulp and/or Paper Manufacturing.
• Experience working in a union environment.
