About the position

The Manager, Paid Media Buying and Strategy at Penguin Random House's Consumer Marketing team will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing paid media campaigns for the Knopf Doubleday division. This position requires a deep understanding of media channels and advertising options, as well as the ability to establish best practices within a centralized paid media buying team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective campaign execution and performance, while also contributing to the growth and development of the advertising team.

Responsibilities

  • Actively plans and manages paid media campaigns directly with ad partners across multiple channels.
  • Initiates and manages relationships with direct buy partners, staying updated on product offerings and developments.
  • Researches and meets with potential new vendors to expand partnerships, focusing on diverse audiences.
  • Oversees onboarding processes for new partners, coordinating with finance and data integrations as necessary.
  • Negotiates terms for insertion orders, secures signatures, and communicates specs and timelines to ad partners.
  • Ensures partners understand marketing goals and KPIs, reflected in their campaign reports.
  • Manages relationships with divisional marketing departments, serving as the lead contact for title marketing efforts.
  • Participates in campaign planning meetings, providing creative recommendations to support books and authors.
  • Provides strategic recommendations at audience, placement, partner, and platform levels to deliver strong performance.
  • Works within project management systems to coordinate with design colleagues and track campaign progress.
  • Collaborates with Ad Operations and Performance Marketing teams to execute impactful campaigns.
  • Supports other media buyers, contributing to a culture of growth and development within the team.
  • Ensures implementation of ad operations requirements and best practices for campaigns.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in media buying, digital advertising, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with the current media landscape and consumer trends and behaviors.
  • Strong grasp of digital marketing metrics and online measurement (CTR, CPM, ROAS, etc.).
  • Interest in literature and familiarity with popular genres, authors, and titles.
  • Experience managing multiple campaigns at different stages of execution with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, able to collaborate with multiple teams.
  • Ability to independently assess and prioritize workload with effective time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze performance data and extract actionable insights for campaign plans.
  • Experience with project management tools like Basecamp and Airtable is a plus.
