About the position

The Payroll Manager at Americold Logistics will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day payroll functions within the organization. This position is integral to the leadership team, supporting payroll and tax administration while ensuring that payrolls are processed in a timely and accurate manner, in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The Payroll Manager will supervise the payroll staff, ensuring that all payroll-related deadlines are met within the established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). In this role, the Payroll Manager will direct the workload of the payroll team, monitor appointments, assignments, and provide necessary feedback and training to enhance the team's capabilities. The manager will also be responsible for developing the knowledge, abilities, and skills of the payroll team members, fostering an environment of growth and performance management. As a point of contact for corporate leaders and field support, the Payroll Manager must stay informed about new legislation impacting payroll processes and ensure that payrolls are processed accurately and on time. Additionally, the Payroll Manager will review and amend payroll procedures as necessary, collaborate with leadership on various projects, and participate in cross-functional teams to implement new processes or recommend changes. The role requires identifying, researching, and resolving global payroll issues, particularly those related to Canada, and acting as a subject matter expert on payroll, tax, and SOX controls. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships across all levels of the organization. The Payroll Manager will also lead system upgrades and compliance changes as required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct payroll team to meet deadlines.
  • Monitor team's appointments, assignments, feedback, and training as required.
  • Develop the knowledge, abilities, and skills of payroll team members.
  • Performance manage payroll staff for growth within the team.
  • Serve as point of contact for corporate leaders and field support.
  • Ensure payrolls are processed timely and accurately.
  • Review payroll procedures and amend them when required.
  • Collaborate with leadership on projects as needed.
  • Participate and lead cross-functional teams to implement new processes and recommend changes.
  • Identify, research, and resolve global payroll issues, specifically in Canada.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on payroll, tax, and SOX controls.
  • Lead system upgrades and compliance changes as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' payroll processing experience.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Cloud HCM & Payroll preferred.
  • Understanding of Canada payroll, wage and hour compliance regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency tax remittance balances and year-end T4s preferred.
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality of payroll and personal information.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and manage workload effectively.
  • Results-oriented, accountable, analytical, and highly organized.
