About the position

The Manager Planning position at Lumen focuses on overseeing the Access Planning team, which is responsible for managing the company's multi-billion-dollar Network Expense liability. The role involves leading a team of planners to provide timely and cost-effective design solutions that support customer growth and network efficiency. The manager will collaborate with various internal stakeholders, analyze operational processes, and present findings to senior leadership, all while fostering a high-performance team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a high-performance team by hiring and retaining talent.
  • Set performance management goals for the team and provide regular feedback.
  • Delegate tasks and hold direct reports accountable for their performance.
  • Empower team members to make decisions and take appropriate risks.
  • Manage internal expectations across financial and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to enhance existing processes and develop new ones.
  • Act as a liaison between business and IT partners for tool development.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess operational and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify new opportunities for network optimization.
  • Prepare and present materials for senior leadership consumption.
  • Work directly with sales teams to drive effective customer offer strategies.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Oversee resource requirements and allocation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of related work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the telecommunications domain.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the on-net access domain.
  • Ability to deliver on objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of telecommunication circuit mediums and access cost structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Team player with a passion for service.

  • Prior experience leading teams through change.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Experience in developing and evaluating complex network performance criteria.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in the on-net access domain in a Planning or OSP role.
  • Prior people management experience including recruitment and performance management.
  • Data analysis skills with proficiency in SQL queries.
  • Experience in optimizing operational processes.
