About the position

As the Manager of Product Development for Commercial (CT) and Utility Trucks (UTE) at United Rentals, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of our light trucks, utility trucks, and utility trailers rental business across the Mid-Atlantic Region. This position requires a strategic mindset and a consultative sales approach to identify and engage customers in various sectors, including infrastructure, government, and transit. Your primary objective will be to enhance the company's market share and cultivate key strategic accounts by leveraging your expertise in sales strategy and product knowledge. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert, utilizing your manufacturing, operational, and sales experience in the utility industry to provide valuable guidance to both internal teams and customers. You will focus on developing CT and UTE product and service offerings tailored to the needs of assigned customers and market segments. This involves formulating and presenting strategic fleet solutions that highlight the full value of our offerings, ensuring that customer needs are met effectively. Collaboration will be key as you partner with internal sales teams to identify growth opportunities, provide product training, and monitor project prospects. You will also be responsible for prospecting and qualifying new strategic accounts, including dormant and competitor accounts, to expand our customer base. Your ability to understand market trends and customer feedback will be essential in identifying opportunities for business expansion and communicating these insights to key stakeholders. Additionally, you will support the overall sales efforts by working closely with Key Accounts and Strategic Account Managers to drive revenue growth at both the regional and branch levels. This position is deemed Safety Sensitive, reflecting the importance of safety in our operations and customer interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and engage customers renting light trucks, utility trucks, and utility trailers.
  • Increase market share and grow key strategic accounts through a consultative sales approach.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the utility industry, providing guidance to internal teams and customers.
  • Develop and present strategic fleet solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Partner with internal sales roles to identify growth areas and monitor projects.
  • Prospect and qualify new strategic accounts from existing and dormant accounts.
  • Collaborate with District and Branch operations and sales leaders to promote offerings.
  • Develop training structures for sales staff focusing on product familiarization.
  • Utilize CRM tools like Salesforce to monitor productivity and provide visibility.
  • Understand market trends and customer feedback to identify business expansion opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 7+ years of sales management experience with large accounts, preferably in light/medium duty truck rental or utility industries.
  • Experience in manufacturing, operations, and sales within the utility industry.
  • Strong networking and sales lead development skills with the ability to influence decision makers.
  • Excellent leadership, customer service, communication, presentation, negotiation, and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be highly motivated to succeed.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce and/or similar sales data/technology tools, and familiarity with FW Dodge and MS Office.
  • Current valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to travel 70% within assigned territory.
