Production Engineering is part of Northrop Grumman's Baltimore Synergy Design Life Cycle (DLC) Engineering organization and provides technical support to various hardware engineering groups. Support is also provided to other Division sites as needed. The Production Engineering group is responsible for supporting new Projects and Programs as they transition out of the Design Phase into the hardware build stage. This support continues through production and post-production support. This support includes Bill of Material (BOM) creation, new part and material requests, drawing review and release, revisions to released designs, configuration control board (CCB) support, shop floor problem resolution, and DMS issue resolution. Production Engineering also provides Mechanical/Electrical NX and Expedition design support. The Manager of Production Engineering will lead their technical team (approximately 5-8 engineers) as they perform the above tasks as well as work with the other managers in the Synergy organization to help Programs meet drawing release dates, manage design updates, manufacturing cell support, supplier interface, resolve DMS issues and other production related engineering support. The role will include supporting the transition to the new Mission PLM system and its related processes, as well as managing early career development within the DLC organization. The manager is also responsible for staffing plans, staff performance evaluation, goal planning, process improvement, and hiring to manage workload demand and skill attrition. The manager will be able to lead through positive changes, as a champion for improvement and innovation. Employee engagement and development will be maintained through a combination of training, employee career coaching, mentoring, identification of stretch assignments, and engagement action planning. The manager will be able to meet performance goals with consideration for work/life balance of the staff. The candidate should have strong communications skills, and an ability to build and maintain relationships with direct staff, customers, and cross organization partners. The various functional management tasks typically comprise approximately 15% of chargeable time, on average. The manager will be expected to maintain a technical or project leadership role that comprises the remaining 85%.
