About the position

The Manager, Project Development at RWE Clean Energy is a pivotal role responsible for originating and developing distributed renewable projects, including emerging technologies such as battery storage, within assigned market areas. This position entails overseeing the entire project development lifecycle, which includes site selection, contracting, permitting, land acquisition, and ensuring compliance with applicable incentive programs and regulatory requirements. The Project Developer will also manage interconnection applications and processes, resolve issues, and support due diligence and valuation efforts for potential transactions. In this role, the Manager will participate in the screening and selection of sites for project acquisition, negotiate binding agreements with landowners and developers, and assess site feasibility for permitting and construction. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring adherence to the company's defined development processes. Regular attendance at development reviews is expected, where the Manager will provide recommendations to management regarding project statuses and escalate issues as necessary. The Manager will also be responsible for filing interconnection applications, managing the interconnection process, and maintaining knowledge of relevant regulations to ensure compliance throughout the project development phase. Additionally, the role involves reviewing all projects being acquired or sold, facilitating the transfer of projects to construction teams, and providing direct support during the sale of projects by obtaining necessary documentation from various stakeholders. This position is integral to the success of RWE Clean Energy's ambitious plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the screening and selection of sites and project acquisition in assigned markets.
  • Negotiate binding agreements with landowners and developers.
  • Assess site feasibility for permitting, construction, and interconnection.
  • Provide inputs for market and project-specific modeling and report on progress to management.
  • Ensure all aspects of project development follow the company's defined processes.
  • Attend weekly development reviews and provide recommendations regarding project status.
  • File interconnection applications and manage the interconnection process to Interconnection Agreement.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations and ensure compliance during project development.
  • Support the review of all projects being acquired or sold, including site control documents and permits.
  • Facilitate the transfer of projects entering construction to relevant teams, including documentation and support during construction.
  • Provide direct support for the sale of projects, obtaining necessary documentation from stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business/economics, or relevant fields.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience related to distributed generation project development, specifically interconnection and/or permitting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with contract provisions and terms, market knowledge, and regulatory issues.
  • Minimum 5 years of project development experience in energy projects.
  • Strong organizational aptitude and analytical decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and people under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work closely with other teams, including business development and asset management.
  • Proficiency in utilizing various GIS-based tools and techniques.
  • Ability to define project development tasks, set date targets and budgets, and accomplish tasks on time and on budget.
  • Understanding of regulatory implications and project development tasks, particularly permitting and interconnection.
  • Effective listening, writing, and speaking skills for clear communication.
