About the position

The Manager, Project Development is responsible for originating and developing distributed renewable projects and other emerging technologies projects, such as battery storage, within assigned market areas. This role encompasses the completion and management of all project development activities, which include project and site selection, contracting, permitting, land acquisition rights, qualification for applicable incentive programs, interconnection application and process, regulatory issues, problem resolution, and supporting due diligence and valuation efforts for potential transactions. The Project Developer will participate in the screening and selection of sites and project acquisition in the assigned markets, negotiating binding agreements with landowners and developers, and assessing site feasibility for permitting, construction, and interconnection. They will provide inputs for market and project-specific modeling and report on the progress of site and project acquisition to department management. The role requires accomplishing all aspects of project development while ensuring adherence to the company's defined development processes for all projects. Additionally, the Project Developer will attend weekly development reviews, provide recommendations to management regarding project development status, and escalate necessary issues for resolution. They will obtain proposals from civil/environmental engineering and permitting firms and manage the vendor selection and contracting process. Filing interconnection applications and managing the interconnection process through to the Interconnection Agreement is also a key responsibility, along with maintaining knowledge of applicable regulations and program rules to ensure compliance during project development. The role includes providing support for the review of all projects being acquired or sold, including the review of site control documents, easements, permits, interconnection agreements, program qualifications, PILOT, tax assessments, and all other related project assets. The Project Developer will facilitate the transfer of projects entering construction to the Project Management, Construction Management, and Asset Management Teams, ensuring all required documentation and hand-off meetings are completed, along with ongoing support during the construction period. They will also provide direct support regarding the sale of projects, obtaining all necessary documentation from landowners, utilities, permitting authorities, and related regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business/economics, or relevant fields.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience related to distributed generation project development, specifically interconnection and/or permitting.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with contract provisions and terms, market knowledge, and regulatory issues.
  • Minimum 5 years project development experience in energy projects.
  • Strong organizational aptitude, analytical and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to work on project-type work with tight deadlines and concurrent deliverables.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and people.
  • Ability to work closely with other teams, including business development and asset management groups.
  • Ability to utilize various GIS-based tools and techniques.
  • Ability to define project development tasks, set date targets and budgets, and accomplish tasks on time and on budget.
  • Understanding of regulatory implications.
  • Knowledge of project development related tasks, particularly permitting and interconnection.
  • Effective listening, writing, and speaking skills for clear communication.
