About the position

The Manager, Public Relations at Princess Cruises is responsible for developing and implementing innovative public relations strategies to enhance brand awareness and drive demand for cruising. This hybrid role involves managing media events, overseeing press trips, and collaborating with various departments to create compelling narratives that resonate with the media and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Manages media components of ship launches, press conferences, briefings, trade shows, and other media events.
  • Manages annual fam trip program, effectively utilizing press cabins and hosting media trips for optimal editorial outcomes.
  • Provides comprehensive advance briefings to ships for all press scheduled to sail, including group press trips and international media requests.
  • Develops new story angles and prepares supporting materials, collaborating with internal departments to uncover newsworthy product initiatives.
  • Keeps informed of industry news and issues to support message delivery and stays current with new technologies that enhance departmental effectiveness.
  • Evaluates incoming opportunities and makes recommendations to department leadership.
  • Proactively reaches out to media contacts and identifies new media for editorial pitching.
  • Represents the brand at relevant media marketplace events, identifying future editorial opportunities.
  • Responds to daily media requests with appropriate brand messages and researched information to meet journalists' deadlines.
  • Prepares professional briefing materials for executive press interviews, coordinating interviews between journalists and executives.
  • Maintains and tracks progress of the press release schedule, ensuring timely drafting and distribution to the global PR team.
  • Prepares timely media statements and updates, ensuring appropriate media receive updates on key issues.
  • Manages department photography, photo shoots, b-roll, and photo library to ensure a compelling image collection.
  • Reviews incoming requests for onboard broadcast shoots, recommending opportunities and serving as onboard escort.
  • Manages program budgets, contributing to overall department budget and ensuring accuracy in forecasting.
  • Compiles monthly data and highlights accomplishments for Board Report, meeting submission deadlines.
  • Manages the department's PR coordinator/intern, providing feedback and conducting annual reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Business, or Journalism.
  • 5+ years' experience in public relations and media relations, preferably in the travel industry.
  • Understanding of PR's role in integrated marketing.
  • Experience creating strategies and pitch plans that lead to successful media relations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skills in Microsoft Suite and media relations software, such as Cision.
  • Experience managing up to executives and coaching them for media interactions.
  • Results-oriented with effective judgment, self-motivation, and strong listening skills.

  • Experience in the cruise or travel industry.
  • Familiarity with digital media and social media strategies.
