About the position

The Manager - Purchasing at American Express is responsible for leading the sourcing process and developing strategic supplier relationships to maximize the company's purchasing power. This role involves implementing category strategies, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with various business teams to drive value from supplier relations. The position emphasizes a customer-first approach and aims to enhance the overall procurement process while ensuring optimal user experiences for both AMEX colleagues and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain trusted advisor relationships to implement category strategy.
• Lead the sourcing process (RFI, RFP, RFQ) in alignment with the category strategy.
• Develop and implement sourcing strategy, negotiate with suppliers, and partner with contract managers on contract execution.
• Identify opportunities and strategic solutions across multiple business teams.
• Develop commercial deal framework and key business terms sheet.
• Enable strategic supplier relationship management through collaboration with the Category Management team.
• Provide clear and regular status updates to business partners and Category Managers.
• Develop negotiation strategies with business and category teams.
• Manage end-to-end plan from requirements through contract execution.
• Manage overall relationship with customers and suppliers during and after sourcing exercise.

Requirements

• Bachelor of science degree / Bachelor of art degree
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant business experience
• Procurement/sourcing process knowledge
• Experience negotiating with suppliers
