About the position

The Manager - Purchasing at AM General is responsible for overseeing the sourcing, delivery, and quality of material spend to support pre-production and low volume production builds. This role involves program management, cost analysis, and ensuring compliance with government requirements while leading a team to achieve strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the sourcing, delivery, and quality of material spend for pre-production and low volume production builds.
  • Manages day-to-day activities for the Business Unit groups and acts as the interface between the SCM team and senior management.
  • Performs and documents complex cost and price analyses to ensure fair pricing.
  • Ensures contract files are complete and satisfy Government/Customer requirements.
  • Analyzes and communicates cost and supplier data in a FAR/Government environment.
  • Leads SCM system integration efforts and drives continuous improvement.
  • Motivates and coaches the team by communicating goals and objectives from the strategic annual plan.
  • Drives achievement of deliverables through effective resource management and team performance.
  • Promotes high standards through personal example and team expectations.
  • Focuses on BoM cost reductions and strategic supplier strategies.
  • Manages strategic supplier approval lists and ensures on-time deliveries for build teams.
  • Conducts benchmarking studies to determine best practices for supply chain strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of professional military purchasing, quality, and program management experience.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in employee development and Commodity Management.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated performance in working with and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, negotiating, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPSM/CPM and/or MBA preferred.
  • Professional Certification (CPSM and/or CPSD) by the Institute of Supply Management is preferred.
