About the position

The Finance team at Inozyme Pharma is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, and experienced accounting and finance professional to fill a critical role responsible for partnering with the clinical operations and clinical manufacturing teams, performing month-end closes, and assisting with oversight of R&D spend. This position is essential for ensuring the financial integrity of the R&D functions and will involve close collaboration with various departments to provide financial insights and support. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance, and will be expected to possess strong analytical and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to respectfully challenge the status quo while always looking for opportunities for improvement. In this role, the candidate will establish strong collaborative relationships with Clinical Operations and CMC teams to provide financial support for clinical study and manufacturing spend. They will lead and ensure the smooth execution of monthly and quarterly R&D closing processes to drive timely financial reporting. The candidate will prepare journal entries, provide appropriate support, and resolve all reconciling items for each accounting period for clinical and CMC along with other R&D functions as needed. Additionally, they will partner with department heads and operations teams to review and conclude on monthly accruals, analyze and provide commentary on the balance sheet and income statement variances, and assist with the preparation of monthly and ad-hoc reporting for senior management. The role also involves collaborating with the accounting team to support external audits and assist with the preparation of workpapers in advance of audits. The candidate will support financial analysis and reporting for Clinical Operations and CMC, including monthly budget to actuals reviews, and will be involved in the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting cycles. Maintaining modeling for clinical trials and manufacturing to ensure accuracy in the latest estimate forecasting will also be a key responsibility. The candidate will take a lead role in special projects focused on improving the quality and efficiency of accounting processes, particularly to streamline and shorten the close process, and manage additional projects and requests as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting and finance
  • Experience working for an early to mid-stage biotech company preferred
  • Knowledge of clinical trials, manufacturing and related business partnership supporting an R&D organization
  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others and a strong desire to make a positive impact
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to translate financial concepts to individuals outside of Finance
  • Motivated and flexible team player with the ability to wear multiple hats and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies, provide suggestions, and drive positive change
  • Experience working in a full-scale ERP system, and the ability to quickly learn and understand various financial accounting systems (NetSuite, Concur)
