About the position

The Release Engineering Manager at GM Financial is responsible for overseeing the Release Management lifecycle, ensuring the reliability of applications through effective scheduling, coordination, and management of releases across North American business units. This role involves leading a team to automate validation processes, providing transparency to stakeholders, and continuously improving release management practices in alignment with Agile and SAFe methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive release management process.
  • Coordinate and publish release and freeze windows.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Software Engineers supporting the release management process.
  • Work with DevOps Tooling to automate validation of release readiness criteria.
  • Coordinate releases across multiple technology teams from inception to delivery.
  • Conduct Release Readiness Reviews and confirm readiness for deployment.
  • Participate in Change Management meetings to discuss release scope and roadblocks.
  • Create and maintain a release management dashboard to monitor release progress.
  • Perform a release management assessment to identify process improvements.
  • Communicate release content, status, and issues throughout release activities.
  • Develop and present executive level reports and presentations on roadmap and release execution.
  • Prioritize and drive the implementation of Release Management Process automation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in release management or similar roles within an IT organization.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles within Agile and SAFe frameworks.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles and practices.
  • Strong ability to analyze data using dashboarding tools such as Power BI.
  • Ability to effectively lead, organize, and supervise software developers.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience required.
  • 2-4 years of leadership experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills and conversance in information technology issues.
