About the position

The Repository Manager at ATCC is responsible for leading a team of 7 in the management of a biorepository that houses over 20 million biological samples. This fully on-site role in Frederick, MD, involves ensuring the safe, monitored storage of cryopreserved specimens, overseeing the storage, retrieval, and shipping of samples for commercial and government clients. The manager will also handle personnel management, operational oversight, and quality improvement initiatives to meet contractual obligations and support the global scientific community.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all personnel functions, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions within the repository.
  • Build and supervise a team of 5-7 full-time employees, promoting a teamwork environment and developing professional staff interactions.
  • Manage repository operations and workflows across various projects, including costs, methods, and staffing.
  • Ensure teams complete their work assignments timely, monitor and adjust staffing levels, and ensure proper safety protocols are followed.
  • Conduct quality audits, address nonconformances, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement changes in protocols and procedures to improve repository operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 or more years' experience, including 2 or more years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience.
  • Prior knowledge or experience with BSI (Biological Specimen Database) is highly preferred.
  • Experience in cold chain storage, shipping and/or receiving highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and overseeing operational workflows.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to hazardous and biological materials.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management and tracking systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage staff.
  • Experience in conducting quality audits and implementing corrective actions.
