About the position

As a Manager in the Robotics Test Engineering team at Symbotic, you will play a pivotal role in the development and validation of our cutting-edge warehouse automation systems. This position requires a hands-on approach to ensure that our mobile robots meet the highest standards of functional performance and reliability. You will lead a team of Robotic Test Engineers, guiding them in the creation of comprehensive test strategies and methods that validate the hardware of our robotic systems. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering team growth through effective coaching and strategic hiring, ensuring that the team possesses complementary skill sets that align with our organizational goals. In this role, you will set high standards for test planning, emphasizing clarity in metrics and thorough reporting. You will be responsible for organizing, tracking, and reporting the status of test objectives throughout various phases of new product development projects. Your expertise will help map product function and reliability requirements to specific test cases, providing essential traceability throughout the product lifecycle. Additionally, you will develop test environments, tools, and capital equipment with a focus on scalability, robustness, and cost-effectiveness, while also implementing efficiency and automation in all aspects of the testing process. Your role will also involve guiding root cause analysis efforts and recommending corrective actions to resolve systemic issues, ensuring that our products not only meet but exceed customer expectations. As a key stakeholder in the System Test organization, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our products, driving innovation and excellence in our testing methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Robotic Test Engineers to develop comprehensive test strategies and methods that validate Symbotic mobile robot hardware meets and exceeds customer expectations.
  • Drive team and individual growth through coaching and hiring plans, emphasizing complementary skillsets and alignment with partner organizations.
  • Set a high standard for detailed test planning, clarity of metrics, careful handling of data, and thorough test reporting.
  • Organize, track, and report status of test objectives throughout phased new product development projects.
  • Map product function and reliability requirements to test cases and provide traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop test environments, tools, and capital equipment with emphasis on scalability, robustness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement efficiency and automation in all aspects of test process and workflows.
  • Guide root cause analysis and recommend correction actions to resolve systemic issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of B.S. in Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a focus on testing products with a high degree of hardware and software complexity, preferably robotics or automation.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading and managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple end-to-end test projects for new product development.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise plans and technical content to internal stakeholders, executive management, and customers.
  • Experience with motion control systems, motors, sensors, vision systems, and communications protocols (CANbus preferred).
  • Experienced in methods for reliability growth and accelerated life testing.
  • Experienced with product life data analysis tools (Weibull+, JMP, Minitab, etc.).
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Tableau, SolidWorks, or programming (Python, C, C#) is a plus.
