About the position

As a Service Center Manager at XPO, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the service center, ensuring that all employees are effectively managed and that freight is delivered and picked up in a timely manner. You will be responsible for supervising all employees reporting to the service center, which includes tracking and auditing their hours, handling payroll issues, administering corrective actions, and monitoring the coaching, training, and development of your staff. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining a productive and efficient work environment, where communication and adherence to company policies and procedures are prioritized. On a typical day, you will plan daily manpower needs to ensure that freight operations run smoothly. This involves providing frequent updates to employees about service center productivity and company policies, as well as researching and implementing opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies. You will also be responsible for maintaining clean and safe working conditions within the facility and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to hazardous materials. Your role will require you to route proper documentation and oversee procedure control for hazardous material shipments, ensuring that all safety standards are met. In addition to your supervisory duties, you will be expected to lift heavy items, reach, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as part of your physical demands. You will also need to be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and standing for extended periods on a loading dock that may be slippery and not climate-controlled. Responsibilities

  • Supervise all employees reporting to the service center, including tracking and auditing employees' hours, handling payroll issues, and administering corrective action.
  • Plan daily manpower needs to ensure freight is delivered on time and picked up promptly.
  • Provide information frequently to all employees about service center productivity and company policies and procedures.
  • Research, monitor, and implement all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Maintain clean and safe working conditions of the facility and equipment.
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations as well as all company policies/procedures.
  • Route proper documentation and oversee procedure control for hazardous material shipments.

Requirements

  • 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with the Less-than-Truckload (LTL) industry, transportation rules and regulations, OSHA standards, hazardous materials regulations, NMFC and Tariff rules, and company policies and procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • A valid driver's license
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and travel as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree, 4 years of related work experience, or equivalent military experience
  • Experience with process improvement and the use of Lean and/or Six Sigma
  • Forklift experience
  • Able to multitask and prioritize work with excellent organizational skills
  • Experience in an LTL environment
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, and administrative skills.
