About The Position

This position is responsible for managing all shipping and receiving activities including orders ready to ship, carrier assignments, final order approval, supervising the loading and unloading of trucks, and tracking inbound/outbound trucks. Supervises the movement, receiving, distribution, and storage of materials. This position is also responsible for managing the staff of the Shipping and Receiving department to include, but not limited to, loaders, drivers, and specialists.

Requirements

  • Outstanding relationship skills and verbal/written communication skills are key to success in this position when dealing with sales, vendors, drivers, customers, and facility leadership.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge and certification of forklift operations.
  • Knowledge of warehouse layout, product codes, and lot numbers. Inventory knowledge. Understanding of production schedules.
  • Complete understanding of stock status and shipping orders.
  • Has the skill and ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives in an environment of constant interruptions, while executing and ensuring priorities are met.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, interpersonal, problem solving, phone, and time management skills. Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership/supervisory experience, shipping and receiving experience, and forklift experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and/or previous experience with ERP systems (such as SAP) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly coordinates all activities associated with the shipping and receiving department, including: Daily interaction with the Production Supervisors to determine orders ready to ship and instruct staff on all shipments to fulfill.
  • Instructing staff on all materials scheduled to be received.
  • Clear all orders on ship hold with the credit department.
  • Confirm and group multiple orders that need to ship together.
  • Analyze if material can ship via LTL or flatbed depending on material/load size, customer preference, and cost.
  • LTL shipments: identify preferred carriers based on cost/geography/timeliness.
  • Flatbed shipments: identify preferred carriers based on cost/geography/timeliness.
  • Supervise/inspect the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Identify all orders based on order forms.
  • Manage freight claims.
  • Receives purchase orders for buyout material to be shipped to customers.
  • Train and develop team members.
  • Participates in safety meetings. Partners with EHS Teams to implement required safety initiatives and training. Conducts accident and near miss investigations, confirms incident reports are completed, accurate, and timely.
