About the position

The Signal Integrity and EMC Simulations Manager at General Motors will lead a team focused on ensuring the performance and reliability of high-speed hardware designs. This role involves analyzing and mitigating signal degradation issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving innovation in the development of next-generation Electronic Control Units (ECUs). The manager will oversee simulation workflows, mentor team members, and establish best practices to deliver exceptional results in high-speed PCB and system-level design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers specializing in signal integrity and EMC simulations.
  • Define team goals, set priorities, and allocate resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality results.
  • Oversee SI and EMC simulation workflows, including modeling, analysis, and validation of high-speed designs.
  • Guide the team in addressing critical issues like reflections, crosstalk, jitter, power integrity, and EMC compliance.
  • Review and approve simulation results, analysis reports, and design recommendations.
  • Drive adoption of advanced simulation techniques and industry-leading tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee development and application of S-parameter models, time-domain reflectometry (TDR) analysis, and eye diagram evaluations.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate SI considerations early in the design cycle and ensure impedance matching, trace optimization, and clock signal integrity.
  • Develop EMC simulation methodologies to predict and mitigate emissions, susceptibility, and interference in product designs.
  • Guide the team in optimizing shielding, grounding, filtering, and decoupling strategies to ensure compliance with global EMC standards.
  • Partner with hardware, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure SI and EMC requirements are incorporated throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Establish best practices for SI and EMC simulations, including model generation, validation, and documentation.
  • Research and adopt emerging technologies, materials, and methods to address evolving challenges in SI and EMC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in signal integrity (SI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) simulations for high-speed systems.
  • 5+ years of leadership or managerial experience overseeing technical teams in SI, EMC, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of high-speed signals transmission principles, including impedance, crosstalk, noise, and signal attenuation.
  • Proficiency in SI analysis tools such as HyperLynx, HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar industry-standard software.
  • Familiarity with global EMC standards and regulations, including FCC, CISPR, ISO, and related certification processes.
  • Expertise in PCB layout and design rules for high-speed, multi-layer boards.
  • Familiarity with current SI trends, emerging technologies, and innovations in high-speed data transmission.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications in SI, EMC, or related areas (e.g., IPC Designer Certification, IEEE SI/PI Training).
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in high-speed design, such as PCIe Gen6, DDR5, or LPDDR5.
