About the position

The Manager, Software Development & Engineering at Charles Schwab & Co. is responsible for leading the Advisor Services Technology team, focusing on the Advisor Services Conversion Program and the evolution of the AS platform. This role involves collaborating with business and technology teams to deliver complex database solutions, ensuring optimal database design, and supporting agile software development practices. The manager will also mentor junior developers and enhance existing software development life cycle (SDLC) practices to improve quality and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Apply technology and institutional business knowledge to support the Advisor Services Conversion Program.
• Partner with business and technologists across the organization to achieve outcomes.
• Focus on database architecture, development, and production support for AS applications.
• Manage and develop 3rd party custodial feeds with an understanding of financial transactions.
• Lead and support the delivery of complex OLTP and OLAP database solutions.
• Ensure optimal database design and production support capabilities through a deep understanding of DBMS engines.
• Lead database projects beyond delivery with strong database architecture and modeling concepts.
• Mentor and lead junior developers through the application development/support cycle.
• Support and enhance existing SDLC practices to increase quality and productivity.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 72 months of progressive, post-Bachelor's experience in a related occupation, or a Master's and 48 months of experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in performance tuning for SQL Server, Oracle, and Postgres databases.
• In-depth understanding of database design and support skills for high volume/complex trading systems.
• Knowledge of database normalization concepts, concurrency control, and isolation levels.
