About the position

The Software Development Manager for Global Edge Compute at Amazon Robotics is responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, develop, and operate cloud-based services that manage Amazon's edge compute fleet. This role involves driving technical vision, mentoring team members, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to innovate in the compute automation space. The manager will ensure operational excellence and contribute to architectural decisions while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of experienced software engineers and front-end developers.
  • Drive technical vision and strategy for the team, aligning roadmaps with business objectives.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of feature deliverables, influencing the tech stack and testing strategy.
  • Champion agile methodologies and DevOps practices within the team.
  • Define and achieve performance metrics, building monitoring systems and maintaining operations of critical services.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical designs in collaboration with engineers.
  • Engage in hiring, mentoring, and growing the engineering team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams.
  • 3+ years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with robotics systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based services and edge computing.
