About the position
As an Engineering Manager for Mobile, you will influence the consumer experience for PayPal customers in 200+ countries. We are looking for someone who is motivated, versatile, and hands-on as you are responsible for leading and developing a team of skilled engineers, helping with design, implementation and delivering state of the art (iOS and Android) mobile experiences. You have deep experience in building customer facing mobile applications, as well as mid-tier and backend components. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mind set are the key to your success in this role. You will be working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, user experience design and engineering) and will require admirable articulation, negotiation and influencing skills given the level of visibility. Experience or awareness of the payments industry is a big plus.
Responsibilities
- Managing a rapidly evolving technology stack on a diverse set of platforms ranging from iOS, Android and Rest services
- Facilitating and driving key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders
- Attracting, retaining and building top notch mobile development engineering talent
- Be a mentor, technical leader and thought leader for a talented team of iOS, Android and backend engineers, challenging them and helping them grow
- Partnering with product, technology, program management and analytics stakeholders to balance aggressive roadmap against engineering principles
- Building a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams
- Driving consistent practices in hiring, training and development across the technology organization
- Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving the resiliency of products you are responsible for, sell your ideas and be part of the change
- Looking for continuous improvement in productivity and quality
- Tracking business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on performance data to make informed decisions about possible changes or improvements
- Deep collaboration with cross functional engineering and product teams to evolve the reporting platform
Requirements
- 8+ years of working experience BS/MS in Computer Science
- 2+ years of experience in managing and growing engineering teams that are responsible for large scale & high volume mobile applications
- Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining high performance, high availability, large-scale mobile applications
- Experience with mobile development frameworks and 3rd party tools
- Excellent communication skills and ability to grasp and convey complex product requirements or technical concepts
- Ability to work in a fast paced, agile development environment
- Ability to partner with business units, product management, program management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and high quality
- Experience building and managing highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions and recruiting talent
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
- Proven results oriented person with focus on customer experience and delivering quality products
- Solid knowledge of algorithms and design patterns
- Solid knowledge of iOS and Android ecosystems and backend services
- Strong Agile skills and proven track record for product delivery
- Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment
- Demonstrated development team building and people management skills
