About the position

Amazon Prime serves over 200 million members across 24 countries and is at the heart of Amazon's explosive growth. The Prime vision is to be the largest and most loved membership program in the world. To achieve this vision, we are making Prime relevant and accessible to every individual in the world, differentiating its value proposition across every segment and geography, and empowering every Amazon business to accelerate its growth through Prime. The Prime Acquisition team is at the forefront of driving Prime member growth by acquiring new Prime members on Amazon. We are seeking a Software Development Manager who takes great pride in both the technical and business contributions of their work. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our systems, our business, and most importantly, our customers. As a member of the Prime team, you will work with several teams across Amazon, tackling interesting business cases while solving technical challenges at massive scale, handling hundreds of thousands of transactions per second. You will work on cutting-edge technologies in both established systems and relatively greenfield spaces, defining product architecture and vision, particularly around building new and extensible product experiences at scale for Prime members worldwide. You will experiment with various models and integrations, making data-focused decisions on what works best for our customers. Additionally, you will lead efforts to integrate machine learning into these scenarios, aiming for a no-human-touch model for customer-optimized experiences. Your role will involve designing flexible, responsive architectures that allow self-service simplicity for our partner teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the systems responsible for worldwide Prime membership that power Prime Offers for Amazon customers.
  • Act as the interface between product owners and the development team, thoroughly understanding the product, helping define user stories, and driving the evaluation of appropriate technical solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Lead the technical team of engineers to deliver on your goals.
  • Own engagement with partners, decompose requirements into technical execution plans with multiple development teams, track progress towards goals, and report status to product, business development, and technical leadership.
  • Make the right feature trade-offs to ship software without compromising customer experience and business relevance.
  • Engage with many other teams in the company, evangelizing the team and your project, building relationships and helping identify existing components and technologies that can be leveraged to deliver on our goals.
  • Represent the technical team to senior leadership across the company.
  • Work with exceptional tech and business professionals to deliver incremental acquisition goals through owning and building Prime offer capabilities and customer experiences.
  • Scale and deliver Prime offer experiences across the 24 countries Prime operates in.
  • Partner closely with Acquisition Tech and other Prime and non-Prime engineering teams to develop scalable capabilities that serve Prime and partner businesses.
  • Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor/coaching and manage teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience.
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in recruiting and hiring top talent in software engineering.
  • Familiarity with machine learning technologies and their application in software development.

Benefits

  • Medical, financial, and other benefits as part of a total compensation package.
  • Equity and sign-on payments may be provided depending on the position offered.
