About the position

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA, Austin, TX, Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days]. We are the Energy Engagement software engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team collaborates closely with the hardware, software, and utilities product teams within the GM Energy business unit to deliver a comprehensive suite of charging and energy products and services, providing meaningful value to our customers through a seamless customer experience. Our team comprises industry-leading software and quality engineers, who utilize a variety of innovative development methodologies and technologies to achieve breakthrough results, drive innovation, and delight customers. Responsibilities

  • Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for engineering deliverables in support of the organization's business objectives.
  • Manages engineering execution of team as related to the Vehicle Development Process deliverables.
  • Provides technical leadership to work team. Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally.
  • Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures.
  • Leads team to meet targets.
  • Reviews and approves engineering documentation, e.g. requirements, documents.
  • Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, Communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages.
  • Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities.
  • Insures employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility.
  • Understands & supports employee's career development goals.
  • Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity.
  • Assigns and manages workload for direct reports. Sets individual employee and group priorities.
  • Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data.
  • Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback.
  • Formally & informally recognizes employee's contributions.
  • Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in web application, services development, mobile development, native and preferably ReactNative.
  • Expertise in Java, Quarkus or Spring Boot including front-end technologies like ReactJS and micro-frontends.
  • 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
  • Experience working with multi-tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests.
  • Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the engineering culture from the bottom up.
