About the position

The Manager, Software Engineering for the ASM Feature Team at Palo Alto Networks is responsible for leading a team of software engineers to develop user-facing security products that provide critical cybersecurity insights. This role emphasizes coaching, team empowerment, and collaboration with product management and UX to create intuitive user experiences. The manager will also define agile processes tailored to the team's needs and drive projects from conception to implementation, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and advocating for engineering-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support, coach, and develop team members to ensure high output.
  • Define and tailor a flexible agile process for the team.
  • Drive projects from requirements to complete design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with product management and UX to translate complex datasets into user experiences.
  • Work closely with product and engineering management to align efforts across the product.
  • Identify and solve existing and impending problems with senior engineers and leadership.
  • Represent the team in departmental roadmap planning and advocate for engineering initiatives.
  • Continuously seek ways to impact the broader engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of industry experience as a software engineer and manager in a SaaS business, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience leading teams building enterprise features on a multi-tenant SaaS platform at scale.
  • Informed opinions on maintaining systems handling data at scale and influencing architecture.
  • Deep understanding of Agile development and its application in design, coding, quality, and deployment.
  • Ability to balance shipping new products with addressing technical debt and infrastructure investments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related Engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Willingness to work in San Francisco, CA.
