About the position

As a Manager of Software Engineering specializing in Back End technologies at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects. Your primary responsibility will be to manage a team of skilled developers who possess extensive experience in distributed microservices and full-stack systems. Together, you will create innovative solutions that address the regulatory needs of the company while enhancing the overall customer experience. This position is not just about management; it also involves a hands-on approach where you will occasionally be asked to code or evaluate code, ensuring that you remain connected to the technical aspects of the projects. In this role, you will collaborate closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans to achieve financial success. You will be expected to stay abreast of the latest technology trends, actively participate in both internal and external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering team. Your expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, along with your knowledge of Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, will be crucial in driving the success of your projects. Additionally, familiarity with container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as various AWS tools and services, will be essential for the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Python or Node.js.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
