About the position

As a Manager of Software Engineering at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects while managing a team of skilled developers. Your primary focus will be on back-end software engineering, particularly in the realm of distributed microservices and full-stack systems. You will be responsible for creating innovative solutions that address regulatory needs and enhance the overall customer experience. This position requires a passion for technology and a commitment to staying abreast of industry trends, as well as a willingness to mentor fellow engineers and occasionally engage in coding tasks yourself. In this role, you will collaborate closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans in their financial journeys. You will utilize a variety of programming languages, including Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, as well as work with both open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. Your expertise will also extend to container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, along with a range of AWS tools and services. Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
