About the position

At Capital One, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Manager of Software Engineering specializing in Back End technologies such as Python, AWS, and SQL. This role is pivotal in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects while managing a team of skilled developers. You will be at the forefront of driving significant transformations within the company, focusing on creating solutions that meet regulatory needs and enhance customer experiences. As a Software Engineer at Capital One, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and inclusive environment. You will lead a team that has deep expertise in distributed microservices and full-stack systems, ensuring that we deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans financially. Your role will involve not only management but also hands-on coding and code evaluation, allowing you to stay engaged with the latest technology trends and innovations. You will collaborate closely with digital product managers to design and implement powerful experiences that leverage a variety of programming languages and tools, including Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, as well as Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. Your leadership will be crucial in mentoring team members and fostering a culture of continuous learning and experimentation with new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala.
  • Work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Manage container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Leverage a variety of AWS tools and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
