About the position

Center 1 (19052), United States of America, McLean, Virginia is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering, Back End. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about building and pioneering in the technology space. As a Manager at Capital One, you will be part of a dynamic team of makers, breakers, doers, and disruptors who are dedicated to solving real problems and meeting real customer needs. You will have the opportunity to lead a team of engineers, executing project strategies, providing career mentorship, and offering hands-on technical support. Your leadership will drive impact beyond the scope of your project or team by building relationships and advocating for best practices within the organization. In this role, you will share your passion for technology by staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and participating in both internal and external technology communities. You will also have the opportunity to mentor other members of the engineering community and, from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that enhance the financial empowerment of millions of Americans. You will utilize a variety of technologies, including Python, Open Source RDBMS, NoSQL databases, and container orchestration services such as Docker and Kubernetes, along with various AWS tools and services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Engineers by executing project strategy, career mentorship, and hands-on technical support.
  • Drive impact beyond the scope of their project/team by building relationships and advocating for best practices.
  • Share passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences for customers.
  • Utilize technologies such as Python, Open Source RDBMS, NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience using Python.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
