About the position

At Capital One, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Manager of Software Engineering to lead our Full Stack development team. This role is pivotal in driving a major transformation within the company, where you will be at the forefront of building innovative technology solutions that address complex business challenges. You will lead a diverse portfolio of technology projects, guiding a team of developers who specialize in distributed microservices and full stack systems. Your leadership will help create solutions that meet regulatory needs and enhance the overall customer experience. As a Manager Software Engineer, you will share your enthusiasm for technology by staying updated on the latest trends and experimenting with new tools and methodologies. You will actively participate in both internal and external technology communities, fostering a culture of learning and mentorship within the engineering team. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans in their financial journeys. Your technical expertise will be essential as you utilize a variety of programming languages, including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go. You will also work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, as well as container orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, alongside various AWS tools and services. This position not only requires strong technical skills but also a proven track record in people management and cloud computing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages and technologies such as JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
