About the position

At Capital One, we are looking for a passionate and experienced Manager of Software Engineering to lead a team of Full Stack Software Engineers. You will actively participate in both internal and external technology communities, fostering a culture of learning and mentorship within the engineering team. Your collaboration with digital product managers will be crucial in delivering robust cloud-based solutions that enhance user experiences and empower millions of Americans in their financial journeys. Utilizing a variety of programming languages and technologies, including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go, and various AWS tools, you will lead your team in creating innovative solutions. Your expertise in cloud computing and open-source frameworks will be essential as you guide your team through the complexities of modern software development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Stay on top of tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages and technologies to develop innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
