About the position
The Manager of Software Engineering for Machine Learning Infrastructure at Figma will lead the development of a dedicated ML Infrastructure team. This role focuses on building and managing the core infrastructure necessary for deploying and serving machine learning models efficiently, while also creating tools that facilitate rapid iteration on these models. The position emphasizes collaboration with ML/AI leaders and engineers to enhance Figma's design and collaboration tools through innovative AI capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage, support, and develop a team of engineers who design and build scalable services for Figma's infrastructure.
- Design infrastructure to train, deploy, and serve models at scale.
- Partner with ML/AI leaders, engineers, and researchers to build internal tools for model development and experimentation.
- Combine industry best practices and a first-principles approach to design and build ML infrastructure.
- Evangelize best practices throughout the engineering team to maintain high code quality.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to set strategy, priorities, and mission for teams and projects.
- Establish trust within and across teams by creating accountability and a positive work environment.
Requirements
- 3+ years managing an engineering team of at least 5 people.
- 6+ years overall industry experience building and scaling distributed systems and infrastructure components as a leader and/or individual contributor.
- Experience managing Staff+ engineers with 10+ years of experience.
- Experience building large-scale online systems and infrastructure to support ML workflows, like training & serving.
- Experience collaborating with ML engineers to understand their requirements and ship systems that accelerate their productivity.
Nice-to-haves
- Hands-on work across the entire ML development workflow, including training, deployment, and serving.
- Experience starting or joining an early-stage ML infra team or sub-team.
- Experience working on models supporting generative AI use cases and/or LLMs.
