About the position

The Manager, Software Engineering at Availity is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Availity Provider Data Platform and its key products. This role involves managing services to meet the needs of both internal and external clients while focusing on improving processes that affect customer satisfaction and relationships. The Manager is tasked with instilling strong engineering practices within their team and introducing rigor in software engineering. This includes overseeing the analysis, design, engineering, and ongoing improvements of software engineering processes and operations to achieve engineering excellence. The Manager will also be responsible for debugging, modifying, and ensuring the continuous delivery of provider data software for commercial and end-user applications. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Manager has corporate functional leadership obligations, which include hiring, supervising, and developing team members, as well as managing day-to-day team and project activities. The role requires collaboration with product teams and customers to ensure that the development of products and solutions aligns with business needs. The Manager will also be involved in evaluating team performance against goals, recommending buy versus build decisions, and minimizing barriers for managing contractors and vendor representatives. This position reports to the Senior Director of Provider Data Management and is integral to the success of Availity's mission to enhance patient care through innovative technology solutions. The Manager will lead and mentor multiple scrum teams, manage development activities for the product pipeline, and work closely with internal and external customers to vet product needs and deliverables. The role also emphasizes the importance of creating a developer culture that extends across the organization, establishing measurable objectives, and recognizing team members for their contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of the Availity Provider Data Platform and its key products.
  • Oversee the analysis, design, engineering, and ongoing improvements of software engineering processes.
  • Debug, modify, and ensure continuous delivery of provider data software for commercial and end-user applications.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop team members, managing day-to-day team and project activities.
  • Collaborate with product teams and customers to ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Evaluate team performance against goals and recommend buy versus build decisions.
  • Lead and mentor multiple scrum teams, managing development activities for the product pipeline.
  • Establish measurable individual and team objectives aligned with business goals.
  • Document and present constructive performance assessments and set developmental goals.
  • Recognize and reward associates based on performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience designing, documenting, building, and delivering complex software systems.
  • Proven experience designing and building scalable and high-performing data-centric systems and applications.
  • Experience establishing and optimizing software engineering processes.
  • Ability to launch and deliver multiple concurrent IT projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal guidance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients/vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism in an interrupt-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle and data structures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Healthcare industry, particularly health care provider business data.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based applications leveraging AWS.
  • Hands-on development experience.
  • Familiarity with on-premise and cloud data architecture patterns.
  • Experience managing multiple data pipelines and different data file formats.
