About the position

The Software Functional Manager 2 at Northrop Grumman will lead a team in the development and management of software for airborne applications, ensuring adherence to safety and flight-critical coding standards. This role involves overseeing the software development life cycle, collaborating with various engineering teams, and making strategic decisions that impact the organization's operations and credibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and maintain software for airborne applications using software engineering best practices and standards.
  • Participate in the full life-cycle of software development including C/C++ coding to flight/safety critical coding standards, unit testing, and software integration testing.
  • Collaborate closely with Software, System, and Test Engineers to ensure a testable product is being developed.
  • Make recommendations for design, process improvements, and data collection.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of software products.
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results and provide direction to resolve priorities.
  • Make decisions that impact the organization's credibility, operations, and services.
  • Assess staffing needs and work with the respective IPT to address those needs.
  • Partner with the program software manager and IPT leads to establish personal program and functional goals, and perform performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates.
  • Acquire necessary computers, equipment, and tools for subordinates to perform their work.
  • Generate training plans based on program and subordinate needs.
  • Provide regular updates on company and organizational status to the group and represent the Software Engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in software development, OR a Master's degree AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in software development.
  • At least 5 years of experience with all phases of the software development process.
  • At least 5 years of experience in C/C++ or other OOP languages.
  • Current active Secret DoD Security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience working in a DevOps culture with continuous integration/continuous deliveries.
  • Demonstrated leadership of engineering personnel on a Northrop Grumman Corporation program.
